CARREC and HUNGER, Gagle’s MC, release “J.R.” on July 4. Lyrics by HUNGER, production by CARREC, and a hand-drawn animated video dropped the same day. The title works on two levels. “J.R.” brings up Japan Railways first: rails, route maps, destinations. But Japanese Rap is what HUNGER is pointing at, and he says so from the first bar:
“敷かれたレールに乗る気はないが これしかない J.R.で行こう” — “I don’t want to ride a rail someone else laid out, but this is the only track that matters to me. Let’s go, J.R.”
Don’t follow the line mapped for you. Lay your own rail and run on it without stopping. That’s what the title establishes before the beat even kicks in. Once it does, the track doesn’t let up. HUNGER weaves railroad imagery through the whole song: rails, route maps, runaway trains, no stops allowed. He threads Japanese rap’s lineage through it alongside his own position in it, as if each bar is a station someone before him built, and the point now is to move past it.
CARREC’s beat pushes in the same direction: heavy, precise, with the momentum of a train picking up speed. His signature is all over it, scratches pulled from Japanese rap classics that surface at exactly the right moments, functioning as both a tribute and a territorial claim. HUNGER rides it with humor and edge and keeps accelerating. The final punchline lands what everything else sets up:
“幼いMCは駆け込み乗車はおやめください” — “Young MCs are kindly asked not to board while the train is moving.”
No cheap irony in that line. It’s the position of someone who laid their own rail and knows exactly how fast their train is running. The video is directed by Tomokispice in hand-drawn animation. Raw lines, quick movement, no digital smoothing: the visual matches the sound. Tomokispice also designed the cover artwork, giving the whole release a rare consistency across audio, video, and visuals. TSUTCHIE of SHAKKAZOMBIE handles mastering. The single comes in five versions: main track, instrumental, instrumental with cuts, TV track, and a cappella, built for DJs, rappers who want to add a verse, and beatmakers looking to take it somewhere new.
