Daize releases “Drip feat. Takm” on August 5. The single is produced by speace88, a French beatmaker who’s been building a presence in Japanese hip-hop through his work with Charlu and TEPA ROUCCI.
Daize is a singer-songwriter born and based in Tokyo. Her voice is silky, her musical foundation comes from Motown, her mother introduced her to it early, and she developed her writing in Atlanta, her vocal coach’s hometown. That mix shows in her sound: R&B with groove and pop energy, lyrics that move between Japanese and English without making a point of it. Her track “Close to you” reached around 60,000 plays on TikTok. Her previous EP between us sat in a more intimate, emotional register. “Drip” goes somewhere else.
Takm is a rapper from Osaka. He handles everything himself: lyrics, rap, artwork, recording, mix, mastering. His 2025 EP 明晰夢 (Meiseki Yume) reached number 29 on the iTunes Japan Hip-Hop/Rap chart. He was also selected from 50 acts out of 1,000 applicants for the AH1 festival. His flow is flexible, comfortable moving from R&B to trap, and that range serves the track.
“Drip” is a summer song about two people drawn to each other who aren’t willing to write it off as a seasonal thing. “No summer fling”, the first verse says plainly. The “drip drip” hook comes back several times, built around melting ice cream, a heartbeat dissolving into the sound of waves. The lyrics switch between Japanese and English without shifting tone between the two. speace88 lays a floating beat underneath that leaves room for both voices without crowding them. What “Drip” mostly signals for Daize is a deliberate shift. After between us and its more inward world, this single moves toward something freer. She describes it herself as her “Season 2”.
