King Gidra, the group of K Dub Shine, Zeebra and DJ OASIS, releases three limited 7″ singles on December 10 via P-VINE, marking the 30th anniversary of their debut album 空からの力 (Sora Kara no Chikara / Power From the Sky), originally released in 1995. Each single pairs a remix with its instrumental on the B-side.
The three releases are: “行方不明 (Yukuefumei / Missing) (DJ Kensei’s Smooth Mix — Remastered / 2015 Re-Edit)”: remixed by DJ KENSEI, with a new re-edit prepared specifically for this 7″ – “真実の弾丸 (Shinjitsu no Dangan / Bullet of Truth) (Flute Mix — Remastered)”: remixed by DJ KIYO – “空からの力 (Mind Funk Remix — Remastered)”: remixed by INOVADER
Remastering by Tom Coyne, the American engineer whose credits include Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift. The sleeves reproduce the original 1996 12″ artwork, scaled to 7″ format. Each single is a fully limited press at ¥2,750 (refs. P7-6206, P7-6207, P7-6208).
Sora Kara no Chikara is frequently cited as the album that set the blueprint for Japanese rap as it’s understood today. K Dub Shine, Zeebra, and DJ OASIS were in their early twenties when it came out, and the lyrics addressed Japanese society with a directness that had no established model in the language yet. Thirty years on, these 1996 remixes haven’t dated because they weren’t trying to be current.
