NEI, a rapper from Nagoya’s Minami-ku district, releases his second album Run, Run, Numb on October 28. This record follows his debut, NEYOND, by six years. The album includes the advance single “upright feat. KID FRESINO”, which set the direction: an alternative approach to rap, with sonic textures that don’t fit neatly into the usual Japanese rap categories.
NEI has built his profile outside the major circuits from the start. His writing and delivery don’t try to align with any established current. Six years away isn’t six years of silence; he kept working, refining, and Run, Run, Numb arrives with the quality of an artist who only publishes when he has something to say. The release party is at Shibuya WWW on Tuesday, December 1. Doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. A long live set, with DJ and beatmaker guests close to NEI, plus some surprises. Tickets are ¥3,800 in advance (¥4,300 at the door), drinks not included, available on e+.
