BATTLE SUMMIT III took place on August 11 at K-Arena Yokohama, in front of around 20,000 people. OZworld and CHICO CARLITO came out on top. They beat Zeebra and T-Pablow in the final and took home a 50 million yen prize.
This was the third edition of the event and the first to use a 2-on-2 tag format. Competitors came from KING OF KINGS, SPOTLIGHT, 戦極MCBATTLE (Sengoku MCBattle), 真ADRENALINE (Shin ADRENALINE), 凱旋MC Battle (Gaisen MC Battle), 口喧嘩祭 (Kuchenka Matsuri), Red Bull Roku Maru, NEO GENESIS and the High School RAP Championship. The duos assembled represented some of the heaviest names in Japanese rap.
OZworld and CHICO CARLITO moved through the bracket to the final. There, Zeebra and T-Pablow, a duo that bridges two generations of Japanese rap. CHICO CARLITO already knows competitive formats, having reached the final of RAPSTAR. OZworld built his reputation in battles before moving to recorded rap, putting him on home turf here.
The tightest match of the night came in the first round, between CHEHON & Red Eye and Eric.B.Jr & Watson. A history between the four goes beyond this event: a beef that played out publicly before this confrontation. That context showed up in the bars from the opening seconds, giving the match a weight few others that night matched. CHEHON and Red Eye won. The evening opened with a surprise live set: 般若 (Hannya), G-kid, Jin Dogg, and SKRYU performed without their names being announced in advance, warming up a room of 20,000 before the first battle went live.
