“TAKE OVER” by Gypsy Well and G-YARD, is avaialble !

Gypsy Well and G-YARD, two of the five MCs in Tokyo-based collective Sound’s Deli, release “TAKE OVER” on July 22 via CHOP N FLIP RECORDS. Production by 呼煙魔 (Koenma), a beatmaker from Ibaraki Prefecture. Sound’s Deli is a five-MC hip-hop collective based in Tokyo, consisting of G-YARD, Gypsy Well, Kaleido, Moon Jam and Tim Pepperoni. They’ve built a solid reputation on the Japanese scene over the past few years, with festival appearances at POP YOURS and Fuji Rock. They’re often cited as a clear example of today’s hip-hop acts building something new from classic influences, particularly in the boom bap tradition.

G-YARD and Koenma aren’t new to each other. Their earlier collaborations, including “纏 (Matoi)” and “Changes” with TORA-G, already established a working dynamic between the MC and the beatmaker. “TAKE OVER” continues that, bringing Gypsy Well into the picture this time. Koenma’s production is described in the source as “gorigori boom bap”, dense, no-frills, the kind of beat that doesn’t try to charm anyone. Both MCs bring a rap that stays authentic without becoming a pure exercise in old-school imitation.
