DJ ONEWAY Drops First Production “BOBSON” feat. NIPPS, VIKN and BENKEI

DJ ONEWAY releases “BOBSON feat. NIPPS, VIKN, BENKEI” on September 16 as a digital single. It’s the first track he has produced as a beatmaker, after a career built entirely behind the decks. A limited 7″ follows on November 11, cut from a separate analog master and with the instrumental on the B-side. DJ ONEWAY is from Chōshi, Chiba Prefecture, and splits his time between Tokyo and his hometown. His DJ practice is rooted in vinyl: hip-hop, soul, funk, jazz, a way of tracing the history of Black American music through his record collection. Moving from DJ to producer is a logical step, but not an automatic one. “BOBSON” documents that shift.

The choice of three MCs says something about the project’s frame. NIPPS comes from BUDDHA BRAND, one of the foundational groups in Japanese rap from the 1990s, known for “人間発電所 (Ningen Hatsudensho)” among others. VIKN is a member of TETRAD THE GANG OF FOUR, a collective that circled around Dev Large and produced some of the densest projects in Japanese hip-hop from the 2010s. BENKEI comes from JUNK HOOD. Three generations, three different paths. This isn’t a lineup built for visibility, it’s a statement about the sources that have shaped DJ ONEWAY since he started.

The result holds both ends: a melody that lands immediately, and a depth in the sound that rewards more than one listen. The instrumental on the 7″ B-side lets the beat speak for itself and confirms the production can hold up without the voices. The 7″ has been on pre-order since September 9 via ONEWAY RECORDS.
